Upper Room Ministries

New Life Emmaus Community operates in direct Covenant with the program provider:  the International Emmaus Program of Upper Room Ministries, Nashville, Tennessee.

Upper Room Ministries, New Life Emmaus Community, The Walk to Emmaus, The Face to Face to Encounter, and The Chrysalis Flight are all interdenominational (ecumenical) in their mission, makeup, intent and nature.

While Upper Room is organized as a division of the UMC General Board of Discipleship, Upper Room is completely financially independent from the UMC.  Upper Room and New Life Emmaus Community are completely not-for-profit ministries.

About Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal and formation experience intended to strengthen the local church by developing Christian disciples and leaders.

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with prayerful discernment and an invitation from a sponsor who has previously completed a Walk. Once the invitation is accepted, an application is completed. The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and God’s time; the person is invited to attend. At this point, the applicant (called Pilgrim) is invited to attend a three-day experience where God’s grace and love can be revealed to them through other believers.

Following the three-day experience, Pilgrims are invited to join small groups that support one another in their ongoing walk with Christ. The accountable discipleship allows the participants to develop their individual gifts and servant-leadership skills and offers encouragement to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship at home, church, and in their community.
